Good manners are among the yoga basics that people need to know in order to maintain a harmonious community of yogis. Anyone who's attended a studio regularly knows that sometimes you come across that one inconsiderate practitioner who makes it difficult to find inner peace and strive for well-being. Avoid being that person by following these simple suggestions:
Try promoting serenity throughout the class by turning off your phone beforehand. Chatting excessively with others is also distracting, and try to enter the studio and unpack your things quietly – particularly if you're arriving late.
Be aware of others' space
One of the yoga basics first things to know is that people need space to conduct the gentle motions and postures of this practice. Be aware of the people next to you and don't situate yourself too closely to others. If you're having trouble finding space, ask the instructor for help rearranging the mats or politely request that people make room so you can squeeze in. Additionally, it's a bad idea to step on other people's mats as you pass by.
Maintain personal hygiene
While everyone's bound to work up a sweat during yoga, excessive body odor can be a big distraction. Shower and apply deodorant before coming to class, and avoid using perfumes, colognes or other products with strong fragrances.
