Go on a yoga retreat to Santorini, Greece

Island destinations often provide the best atmosphere for those embarking on a yoga retreat, as the peaceful environment and natural scenery provide the ultimate environment for a relaxing getaway. Those who want to work on their yoga meditation in Europe should consider heading to Santorini, Greece, which is a popular hot spot for these types of vacations.

Santorini is a small archipelago located southeast of the mainland and part of the Aegean Cyclades. It is regarded as one of the world's most intriguing natural wonders for the way it was created – the islands are what remains of an ancient volcanic explosion that occurred in approximately 1630 B.C.

Beyond its fascinating origin, many people visit the island to see its world-famous sunsets, where the sky is painted with neon hues as the sun seemingly descends into the water. There are numerous beaches where tourists can enjoy the colorful sight, including Red Beach, Vlichada, Amoudi and Perivolos.

Those who spend the day practicing their yoga postures in the sand may want to end the night at a local winery, where they can savor a glass or two before heading home.

Explore the sacred lands of Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a spectacular location for one to practice poses learned in Dahn Yoga classes. What could be a more majestic experience than to exercise in the midst of soaring Peruvian mountains? Visitors can reap the benefits of yoga by using their inner peace to truly appreciate their sacred surroundings.

Nestled between peaks in the Andes range, the pre-Colombian site is not only a supremely scenic place to find relaxation, but it also has a mysterious Incan background that has afforded Machu Picchu the title of "The Lost City of the Incas." Its archaeological intrigue has also lead to UNESCO World Heritage Site status and a nomination to be one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

"Fastidiously constructed stone temples, expansive vistas of imposing mountain silhouettes and the rushing Urubamba River below combine for a veritable cathedral to nature in this towering city," says Sherman's Travel.

There are also a number of small villages that one can visit in the Sacred Valley, including the beautiful Ollantaytambo, which is home to fascinating ancient ruins.

College students benefit from a little extracurricular yoga

Going to college means taking classes that enhance one's perception of the world and initiate a long process of professional and personal development. It also means undergoing some serious stresses, including deadlines, piles of homework, part-time jobs and internships. Dahn Yoga classes – or for that matter, any regular relaxation regimen – may help college students flourish.

A new study has determined as much. Research published in the journal Advanced Materials Research found that female college students who practiced yoga for six months experienced a number of mental and physical benefits from the routine.

Scientists at Handan College, China, monitored the health of several dozen collegian women over half a year. After regularly performing yoga during that time, the participants tended to have a better body weight, heart rate, waist circumference and ability to do simple exercises, compared to those who did not practice yoga.

The group's personal development did not stop at the physical level. A questionnaire found that volunteers rated themselves as less anxious or depressed after the yoga training.

Taking Dahn Yoga classes can have a similarly positive effect, in that the discipline's members often experience a surge in energy and vitality after an afternoon of breathing, stretching and meditation.

Take a peaceful Italian vacation to the Pelagie Islands

There's nothing like a good savasana in a peaceful destination, and those who are on their journey for personal growth may want a solo vacation to reap the benefits of yoga. Those who want to use the techniques learned in Dahn Yoga classes should head to Italy, where the Pelagie Islands offer majestic views and a serene atmosphere.

Lampedusa, one of the Italian islands located near Sicily, is an intriguing place to go on holiday. Tourism website Sherman's Travel claims that the island is "full of hidden coves and quiet corners" where one can escape and enjoy a few moments of utter relaxation. This area is also one of the last places in the world where one can find the loggerhead turtle, an endangered Mediterranean dweller that inhabits both Lampedusa and Linosa Island.

Nearby is Rabbit Island, which is a very small and remote area that is lined with beautiful white cliffs. Visitors can sit perched atop one of these formations and look out to the clear turquoise waters, which is an exceptional sight from high above the sea.

Since I’ve been coming to Dahn Yoga I have experienced many positive changes. I have lost 65 pounds and my energy level has increased greatly. I am much more flexible and the arthritis in my hands has all but disappeared.

I only have occasional flair ups. I no longer have acid reflux or symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. I am sleeping better at night and I am able manage stress much better than before.

Robyn H leads life of health, happiness, and peace

My Dahn Yoga practice has changed my life for the better! It all began 3 years ago, with a trip to my local Laundromat. I had started a new job and was under extreme stress. I’d be so tired when I’d go home after work that I would just stare at the TV and eat before it was time to go to bed. Somehow, I knew that life could and should be more than that.

So, one day when I went to do my laundry, I picked up a brochure advertising my local Dahn Yoga center. I went in the next day for an “energy checkup.” The news was not good. I was told my posture was crooked, my balance was bad, and I needed help. Well, I knew that. The good news was that I was told it could all be corrected with the help of Dahn Yoga. I signed up right away!

Here are some of the medical benefits I’ve received since I started practicing in June 2006: I was taken off my medication for osteoporosis, my vision has improved remarkably to the point where I don’t need reading glasses most of the time, I have more energy, and I am eating more normally and maintaining my weight instead of steadily gaining.

The mental and spiritual benefits are numerous as well. I am easier to get along with and am no longer a cranky old person. Now, I’m a happy old person with lots of energy!

Thank you to all my masters, instructors, and fellow members, for saving me from a doomed life of stress, misery, and chaos. I now lead a life of health, happiness, and peace, and have hope for the future.

Dahn Yoga My Joy My Blessing

Comments Off

I believe there are no accidents…I believe in the Creative Spirit of all humans and of the Universe…I believe we are all Spiritual Beings having an Earthly experience…I believe that when one is ready, the Master will appear… I had forgotten my beliefs…

I have lived many years with chronic neck pain which caused dizziness when lying down. I have been told I have hip and knee arthritis. My Mother was crippled in her later years with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Last year an added challenge surfaced around this time. I was in a state of Anxiety after several shocking and reality shattering occurrences. I had been placed on a low stress work arrangement for three months. I knew I must make some real changes in order to not only keep my employment, but to prosper as I know can be achieved in the right circumstances. I was, however, shaken and at an emotional, physical and mental low point in my life.

My daughter was in Houston for a while, as she is Happiness personified for me. She came in one day after running errands and announced that she had discovered the perfect place for me!

The minute I walked into the Dahn Yoga Center in River Oaks, I KNEW my journey back to Health and Happiness was beginning! I signed up for a year right then and there, following my Intuition and my Heart which had been laying dormant. Needless to say I was thrilled!

My first class really substantiated that I was surely in my “right place”. The enthusiasm, bright smiles and accepting attitudes of each Yoga Master was indeed another sign for my life. Master Ginny and Master Anna truly epitomized enlightened wisdom and a balanced Grace of each movement…always encouraging and engaging the class to “stretch toward their best” at that moment.

I have experienced such acceptance toward self reliance and true self healing. A harmonious balance which expands my imagination through visualizations is such a welcomed respite from the outside world. A creative rhythm with each Brain Vibration has developed my healing capacity physically, mentally and emotionally. My neck problems have essentially disappeared…something doctors and chiropractors have been unable to achieve! For me…that is a Miracle! I have a renewed sense of vitality toward Life!

I have increased my Intuitive knowledge of my body connection with my Spirit. My concentration and discipline with each class has created that balance with other important aspects of my life…my work, my human understanding and compassion, my Joy in Living Loving and Learning. I have never experienced such dedication and enlightenment toward the connection of Body, Mind and Spirit…

Dahn Yoga represents all the Goodness for Self…expanding out to Others, our Earth, our World in so many facets…seminars, weekend retreats, but mostly…creates a “Peace that Passeth all Understanding”…

We cannot share or give away what we do not have within. Dahn Yoga is opening my life to the expression of Health and a Peace of Mind which evolves from knowing I am genuinely committed to being my best self… I know unequivocally that the Glowing Energy derived from being involved with Dahn Yoga will be a Blessing for myself, others and my world…

I will end with a quote from the IBREA Foundation, which I feel embodies the intrinsic values of Dahn Yoga…

“The most valuable legacy that we can pass on to future generations is the recovery of our humanity so that they can experience a deeper and more meaningful existence. By awakening the best in the human spirit, we can make this legacy a reality in our lifetime”

llchi Lee

I gratefully acknowledge…Dahn Yoga is my Joy and my Blessing…

Though it was founded in the 1980s, Dahn Yoga's basic precepts and techniques are directly descended from methods practiced five millennia ago in East Asia. These precepts include the importance of the mind's partnership with the body, as well as the need for a balanced bond between the two.

Today, thousands of Americans practice Dahn Yoga everyday, many of whom are delightedly trying it for the first time. Taking a little time out of one's day to stretch, breathe, pose and meditate with a gentle smile on one's face can radically change one's mood and outlook.

This blog offers responses to news items that prominently feature Dahn Yoga and its neighborhood centers.
