If only all employers were so happy to encourage meditation at work! It might help dads everywhere relax this June 17.

It’s Men’s Health Week, a national observance that focuses on the common health problems affecting American men and boys. It’s an occasion to sit down with with your brother, father, son or husband, and talk about ways to keep him healthy. If he doesn’t think he’s got time for an exercise routine, ask him to read about Tony Ellison, an internet CEO who is bringing yoga and health benefits to work with him.

According to the USA Business review, Ellison – the founder of online retailer Shoplet – introduced his staff to in-office yoga. A few were skeptical at first, but he told the news outlet that his employees, men and women alike, have since taken to yoga like ducks to water.

The key, Ellison explained, is yoga’s ability to “help people disconnect from those eight to ten hour periods of sitting in a chair – it helps to diffuse energy in more positive ways.”

He added that Shoplet employees now regularly do yoga basics to improve alignment during business hours, on mats graciously provided by the company. If only all employers were so happy to encourage meditation at work! It might help dads everywhere relax this June 17. (That’s Father’s Day – don’t forget!)

Though it was founded in the 1980s, Dahn Yoga's basic precepts and techniques are directly descended from methods practiced five millennia ago in East Asia. These precepts include the importance of the mind's partnership with the body, as well as the need for a balanced bond between the two.

Today, thousands of Americans practice Dahn Yoga everyday, many of whom are delightedly trying it for the first time. Taking a little time out of one's day to stretch, breathe, pose and meditate with a gentle smile on one's face can radically change one's mood and outlook.

This blog offers responses to news items that prominently feature Dahn Yoga and its neighborhood centers.

Dahn Yoga was originated by founder Ilchi Lee. Lee, born in South Korea in 1950 had an inner craving to discover life's purpose. Spending 21 days in an ascetic practice, Lee came to see that, not only was his personal energy, but all of humanity's energy was one with the energy of the entire universe.
