Head to Hilo for a peaceful retreat

Hawaii is a gorgeous place to take a relaxing retreat and an even better place to practice Dahn Yoga meditation techniques. Specifically, the peaceful community of Hilo has a wonderful natural landscape where one can truly absorb their surroundings and work on self healing.

The Wailuku River State Park in Hilo offers visitors an incredibly serene atmosphere, with a sparkling waterfall that descends from an 80-foot overhang, creating a colorful mist that gives the attraction its name – Rainbow Falls. Try practicing a few yoga poses as the water cascades in the distance and the sound of the waves crashing below will be a perfect complement your savasana.

Also in the park are the famous Boiling Pots. These are small pools that collect water from the flowing river, which bubble like a jacuzzi. Make sure to only observe and appreciate the sight from afar, as the water rushes at high speed and could be dangerous up close.

Those who want to more of a spectacular scene can visit Mauna Kea, which is the tallest volcano on earth and also an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Explore the sacred lands of Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is a spectacular location for one to practice poses learned in Dahn Yoga classes. What could be a more majestic experience than to exercise in the midst of soaring Peruvian mountains? Visitors can reap the benefits of yoga by using their inner peace to truly appreciate their sacred surroundings.

Nestled between peaks in the Andes range, the pre-Colombian site is not only a supremely scenic place to find relaxation, but it also has a mysterious Incan background that has afforded Machu Picchu the title of "The Lost City of the Incas." Its archaeological intrigue has also lead to UNESCO World Heritage Site status and a nomination to be one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

"Fastidiously constructed stone temples, expansive vistas of imposing mountain silhouettes and the rushing Urubamba River below combine for a veritable cathedral to nature in this towering city," says Sherman's Travel.

There are also a number of small villages that one can visit in the Sacred Valley, including the beautiful Ollantaytambo, which is home to fascinating ancient ruins.

College students benefit from a little extracurricular yoga

Going to college means taking classes that enhance one's perception of the world and initiate a long process of professional and personal development. It also means undergoing some serious stresses, including deadlines, piles of homework, part-time jobs and internships. Dahn Yoga classes – or for that matter, any regular relaxation regimen – may help college students flourish.

A new study has determined as much. Research published in the journal Advanced Materials Research found that female college students who practiced yoga for six months experienced a number of mental and physical benefits from the routine.

Scientists at Handan College, China, monitored the health of several dozen collegian women over half a year. After regularly performing yoga during that time, the participants tended to have a better body weight, heart rate, waist circumference and ability to do simple exercises, compared to those who did not practice yoga.

The group's personal development did not stop at the physical level. A questionnaire found that volunteers rated themselves as less anxious or depressed after the yoga training.

Taking Dahn Yoga classes can have a similarly positive effect, in that the discipline's members often experience a surge in energy and vitality after an afternoon of breathing, stretching and meditation.

Breathing exercises can lead to fewer mistakes in the job search

While nobody is perfect, Dahn Yoga tai chi can bring one's body and mind together and help one be more relaxed and, as a potential result, avoid making silly mistakes, which is essential in the job hunt.

A recent article in the International Business Times reveals that there a number of common mistakes that people make when they send out a cover letter.

One of the most common mistakes is sending the letter as an attachment rather than in the email itself. Attaching the letter leads to a much higher chance of a hiring manager ignoring it and going straight to the resume.

Another typical mistake is writing too much. One should keep his or her cover letter short, making sure the high points of one's career are touched upon without bogging it down with unnecessary details.

Providing irrelevant information is also one of the major pitfalls of drafting cover letters. One should make sure that the letter is pertinent and concise.

Before one clicks "send" they may want to do some breathing exercises and look over the email to make sure they avoid these mistakes.

A new children’s book from Kristi Yamaguchi

Dahn Yoga DVDs and books can be a learning tool and guide into the world of yoga, personal change and personal development. There are also many children's books designed to foster growth and inspire young kids to dream big.

Figure skater and Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi has written a new children's book aimed at inspiring kids to achieve their dreams, according to the Naperville Sun Times.

The new book is titled "Dream Big, Little Pig!" and is published by Sourcebooks, which has had 16 New York Times best-seller titles.

The story is about a pig named Poppy who dreams of becoming an ice skating champion. When asked what her inspirations were, Yamaguchi said that she was born in the year of the pig, according to the Chinese calendar. "I love Miss Piggy," added Yamaguchi.

Tim Bowers worked as the illustrator for the book.

“This is not the average celebrity book. Sometimes we wonder how involved the celebrity is, but you can tell this is Kristi. It’s about finding your dreams and inspiring people. We are known for books which inspire with a lot of heart, which is why we have so many best-sellers. They reach people," Dominique Raccah, the CEO and Publisher of Sourcebooks, told the news outlet.

Take a peaceful Italian vacation to the Pelagie Islands

There's nothing like a good savasana in a peaceful destination, and those who are on their journey for personal growth may want a solo vacation to reap the benefits of yoga. Those who want to use the techniques learned in Dahn Yoga classes should head to Italy, where the Pelagie Islands offer majestic views and a serene atmosphere.

Lampedusa, one of the Italian islands located near Sicily, is an intriguing place to go on holiday. Tourism website Sherman's Travel claims that the island is "full of hidden coves and quiet corners" where one can escape and enjoy a few moments of utter relaxation. This area is also one of the last places in the world where one can find the loggerhead turtle, an endangered Mediterranean dweller that inhabits both Lampedusa and Linosa Island.

Nearby is Rabbit Island, which is a very small and remote area that is lined with beautiful white cliffs. Visitors can sit perched atop one of these formations and look out to the clear turquoise waters, which is an exceptional sight from high above the sea.

Study: Yoga has perceived positive effects on air allergies

The benefits of regular yoga practice are numerous, though of course they depend on the form of the discipline being used. Whether an individual uses Dahn Yoga breathing exercises or some other form of stretching or posing, yoga can help the body feel that it is self healing. A recent study determined that yoga can help people with respiratory allergies feel positive effects both within their bodies and their spirits.

The report, which appears in the journal Holistic Nursing Practice, analyzed the effects of regular yoga posing, deep breathing and relaxation techniques on the perceived bodily health of participants who suffered from air allergies.

By interviewing a number of practitioners, the study's authors found that participants often attributed the feeling of relief in the lungs and chest to their yoga exercises.

Furthermore, respondents said that they experienced a harmonious inner force – what Dahn Yoga members call Ki – as well as mindfulness, self-awareness, understanding and a sense of harmony.

"The practice of yoga as a self-healing modality provides yet another intervention that can be heralded as a holistic nursing intervention that is beneficial to patients who may have allergic respiratory symptoms," researchers concluded.

Dahn Yoga breathing exercises may entail similar levels of perceived positivity, as those who practice them feel their mind and body slowly but surely reuniting.

Kesha taps into benefits of beach yoga

Those who incorporate a relaxation routine such as Dahn Yoga breathing exercises into their day may find themselves feeling less anxious or wound up. When that day takes place on the beach, one's good health and sense of peace may be stimulated even further.

Recently, pop singer Kesha took a few minutes out of her day to practice stretching, deep breathing and yoga-like posing on the beach, according to Us Magazine.

She is not alone in finding the seashore a good place to try a little yoga. Many people specifically seek out destinations at which they can relax, practice yoga and escape their worldly cares.

Many beach-side destinations offer yoga programs and spas that cater to individuals who don't want to abandon their yoga regimen while on vacation, the International Business Times reports. Classes can be found both inside and outside the U.S.

When practicing Dahn Yoga breathing, meditation and posing, the beach can be an acceptable place to do it. The soothing breeze off the ocean can keep the body cool and even help the lungs refresh themselves with healthy sea air.

It is best to make sure that any beach yoga be pursued when it is not too hot outside, so as to avoid excessive sweating or sunstroke. However, if it is done at the right time of day, a round of Dahn Yoga breathing exercises by the ocean can be a powerful and peaceful experience.

Personal development may take more than positive thoughts

In order to let go, many people turn to relaxation techniques such as Dahn Yoga brain wave vibration in order to feel at peace. While having a positive attitude is healthy, a recent study suggests that some people may need more than just good thoughts in order to succeed.

Research that was published in Psychological Science, a journal from the Association of Psychological Science, reports that people who believe that they're prepared for a test typically have the opposite effect when they actually take the exam.

The scientists wrote that the test taker develops a false sense of security beforehand because he or she believes that they already have all of the answers. However, for those who may feel that they're alone in this mistake are actually wrong. Nate Kornell, a psychologist from Williams College, said that in most situations, people who predict that they will do well on a quiz often perform poorly.

"There is a disconnect among beliefs, judgments and actual memory," Kornell explains. He added that this simply means that people should study longer than they believe they have to.

Relaxation techniques are important for those who need to study, as they may be able to focus more on the information when they have a clear mind.

Dahn Yoga DVDs explain how to reinforce the mind-body connection

Trying to effect a little physical, mental or personal change is not always easy. Daily life does not come with a guidebook, which is why the management of its stresses is so important. Those hoping to relax and re-center themselves need look no farther than a few Dahn Yoga DVDs.

Dahn Yoga for Beginners, produced by the Healing Society, is a good place for those new to the discipline to start. The DVD begins by demonstrating how to perform meridian stretches, a warm-up technique that opens up the body's energy channels.

Next, the video addresses proper breathing posture, after which it teachers the viewer how to engage in meditation.

For those who want a more in-depth exploration of Dahn Yoga's ability to bring about spiritual and personal change, the DVD Dahn Yoga Essentials may be a good fit. Hosted by instructor Dawn Quaresima, this video runs a full hour in length and touches on the meridian stretching, deep breathing, yoga postures and meditation. It even goes through the essentials of brain wave vibration, a technique employed to relieve stress.

Finally, for those who suffer chronic pain caused by multiple sclerosis and similar diseases, the disc Dahn Yoga for MS may provide some relief by taking viewers through postures and stretches designed to reduce aches in joints and limbs.

Though it was founded in the 1980s, Dahn Yoga's basic precepts and techniques are directly descended from methods practiced five millennia ago in East Asia. These precepts include the importance of the mind's partnership with the body, as well as the need for a balanced bond between the two.

Today, thousands of Americans practice Dahn Yoga everyday, many of whom are delightedly trying it for the first time. Taking a little time out of one's day to stretch, breathe, pose and meditate with a gentle smile on one's face can radically change one's mood and outlook.

This blog offers responses to news items that prominently feature Dahn Yoga and its neighborhood centers.
