The reason I have modernized this philosophy and teach it to as many as possible is that it corresponds perfectly to the truth I was awakened to, and because the philosophy is broad enough to include the whole of Earth on Her march to a worldwide spiritual civilization.

The essence of the Dahnhak educational system is not “studying” in the ordinary sense of the word, but it can be characterized more as the recovery of senses. The goal of Dahnhak is the recovery of the Yuln ‘yo, the natural rhythm of life that resides in humans and within all life, leading to a harmonious life. Yuln’yo is eternal life, light, sound, and vibration that exist wholly within and with itself. I describe this also as cosmic energy and cosmic mind. Even now, Yuln’yo is active within all life, beating and pulsing as the reality behind it. This is the energy that makes the Sun burn, Earth turn, and our hearts beat.

Dahnhak is an experiential educational system that helps people to recover the Yuln ‘yo within so that they would establish a harmonious relationship with each other, with nature, and ultimately become one with the grand harmony among Heaven, Earth, and Human.

A person who has recovered Yuln’yo in his heart I call “New Human” or an “Earth Human.” A New Human has a capacity for love large enough to care not only for himself but for all existence. A New Human has a noble purpose that benefits the whole world. A New Human has commitment to and honesty about his purpose and can actualize it through living. A perfect human, an ideal human—it sounds glamorous, but it can be simple to achieve, for all you are doing is becoming what you were meant to be in the first place. You are becoming a healthy, beneficial human being. Perhaps a New Human could also be termed “An originally intended human.”

Though it was founded in the 1980s, Dahn Yoga's basic precepts and techniques are directly descended from methods practiced five millennia ago in East Asia. These precepts include the importance of the mind's partnership with the body, as well as the need for a balanced bond between the two.

Today, thousands of Americans practice Dahn Yoga everyday, many of whom are delightedly trying it for the first time. Taking a little time out of one's day to stretch, breathe, pose and meditate with a gentle smile on one's face can radically change one's mood and outlook.

This blog offers responses to news items that prominently feature Dahn Yoga and its neighborhood centers.
