In a sense, we are using the body to awaken both the body and the brain. This is to awaken the body’s senses and the brain simultaneously. We all have an established number of bodily movements that we use on a frequent basis. Consequently, our brain also records the patterns of those movements in its foremost circuits. Through a series of specifically designed exercises, including deep stretching and calisthenics, we can change the patterns of our movements. We use muscles that we do not normally use, thereby, breaking set patterns and stimulating both the body and brain to develop new awareness.

On an energetic plane, activating the potential of your brain means you allow your brain to “breathe” by supplying it with Ki-energy. More popularized in the West by the Chinese pronunciation of “Chi”, Ki is the invisible energy that goes around and through all things in the universe, including us. Sir Ilchi says that through the initial process of awakening our bodily senses, we experience a sensation unlike any we have had before. This is the sensation of the energy that is flowing through our body. The energy provides us with another medium or channel through which we can train our brain. Although our brain is composed of billions of nerve cells and controls the function of every other organ in the body, it cannot feel or even move itself. In the world of the five human senses, there is no way to consciously feel or move our brain. The only way that we can exercise or train our brain is to use a completely different medium from the physical. We can use a stream of Ki-energy and direct its (low to the areas in the brain that we wish to relax, exercise, or I rain. Increasing sensitivity to the energy is crucial and a basic requirement tor the practice of Brain Respiration.

Today, thousands of Americans practice Dahn Yoga everyday, many of whom are delightedly trying it for the first time. Taking a little time out of one's day to stretch, breathe, pose and meditate with a gentle smile on one's face can radically change one's mood and outlook.

This blog offers responses to news items that prominently feature Dahn Yoga and its neighborhood centers.
